How to prepare green peas for freezing
Rinse the pods thoroughly under running water, spread on a towel and dry. After that, take out the grains from them. In the process, discard spoiled and worm-damaged peas. Ripe, bright green specimens are best suited for freezing.
How to freeze raw green peas
This is the easiest and fastest way to harvest. But keep in mind that as a result, frozen peas may darken a little and start to taste bitter.
To prepare hot dishes, you can not defrost the peas first. For use in salads first you have to boil the grains in salted water until soft, and then cool.
What you need
- Green pea;
- ziplock bags or regular plastic bags.
How to do
Divide the prepared peas into bags. For more compact storage, try to flatten the package.
Press lightly on the bag to release excess air, close the zip or tie a knot and place in freezer.
How to Freeze Blanched Green Peas
After a little heat treatment, frozen grains will not be bitter. In addition, for the preparation of any dishes, such peas do not need to be boiled until tender. Just enough to defrost.
What you need
- Green pea;
- two pans;
- water;
- ice;
- colander;
- towels;
- ziplock bags or regular plastic bags.
How to do
Boil water in one saucepan, half fill another with cold clean water and add a few ice cubes.
Pour the peas into a container with boiling water and cook for 1 minute.
Drain the vegetables in a colander to drain excess liquid.
Dip the peas in a pot of ice water. Stir it for 1-2 minutes. Sudden temperature changes will stop the cooking process, which will allow the grains to retain their elasticity.
Drain the peas again in a colander and let the water drain.
Arrange the blanks on one towel a thin layer, and with another blot on top to remove excess moisture.
Divide the blanched green peas into bags. Press them lightly to release excess air and close or tie in a knot.
Send the packages to the freezer for storage.
