Notification restrictions, caller ID, design customization, file management and more.
1. Only accept important notifications
Viber displays all message notifications by default. If there are too many of them and if there are frequent updates in the channels, alerts can be annoying. In this case, you should change the settings. The messenger can signal all messages in the chat with one notification or not notify at all.
On Android, open the desired chat and swipe left. The correspondence settings menu will appear, where you need to activate the "Collect notifications" item. Channels has a Notifications option instead. Click on it and select "Highlights". This way you will only be alerted to the most important messages flagged by administrators. To turn off notifications, click on the "Silent" option.
On iOS work notifications is different. You can activate the desired function in group chats. To do this, open the community settings with a swipe to the left and activate the "Accumulate notifications" toggle switch. Highlights in channels and "smart alerts" in personal correspondence are not yet available.
2. Identify incoming calls
Recently, Viber introduced a caller ID feature. It allows you to identify incoming calls - even those that were not made using the messenger. This will help you not to miss really important calls and distinguish them from spam or scammers, whose numbers are already included in the base of the determinant.
You can activate the option in the Viber settings. So far, it is available only to Android users, but the developers promise to add it to iOS. Do the following:
- Go to Viber, click on the "More" button with three dots in the lower right corner of the main menu.
- Open "Settings" → "Calls and messages", check the box "Qualifier numbers». The application will ask you to give it the necessary permission in the Android settings so that the function works correctly. Scroll through the list to Viber and turn on the corresponding item.
3. Get rid of extra files
The messenger allows you to manage your device's storage - delete media files from the entire application cache or only from certain chats. In the memory management menu, you can also check how much space all your correspondence takes up and estimate the amount of free memory on your smartphone.
The setting will be especially useful for users who do not have enough built-in storage for all the data they use and it is important to save memory on the device. You can check the storage in the menu along the path "More" → "Settings" → "Memory". This section has a list of chats with uploaded media files. To remove them, go to chats and highlight unwanted photos and videos.
4. Use chatbots
With the help of chatbots in Viber, you can get new useful information, sticker packs, access to entertainment, and even maintain a healthy lifestyle. For example, a chatbot from WHO is available in the messenger to combat smoking and tobacco addiction - WHO Quit Challenge. In addition, there are bots designed for holding contests and other events, as well as sending up-to-date news. Some will help track the cost of airline tickets and discounts in large stores.
You can find the right bot through the search by entering an approximate name - the tool will be marked with the corresponding icon. Next, in an open chat, you will need to launch the assistant with the button at the bottom of the screen.
5. Customize the overall visual theme and backgrounds of individual chats
By default, Viber has a light theme, but you can quickly switch it to a dark one. To do this, just go along the path "More" → "Settings" → "Themes" and mark the desired option.
In the same menu there is an option "Change default background". Click on it and select a picture that will be used in all Viber chats at once. You can also take an image from the smartphone's memory or take a new photo.
In addition, for each chat customized backdrop is available. To install it, open the desired correspondence, swipe to the left and click on the “Background” item. Then select one of the ready-made options from the gallery or a picture from your smartphone.
6. Draw on photos
Another Viber feature allows users to decorate and complete photos. On Android, you can add notes and draw on any pictures from chats that you received or sent yourself. To do this, open the desired image in the correspondence, click on the menu button with three dots and select from the drop-down list "Add doodle».
In the iOS version, you can draw on the image only before sending it. To do this, select a file from the device's memory and click on the pencil at the bottom left. The simple editor menu will open.
Here you can set up a brush, line color, use an eraser, add inscriptions and stickers. You can share the finished file immediately in an open chat, and in Android, you can also send the picture to a friend using the "Send" button.
7. Use AI filters and masks
To make your conversations on Viber more interesting, try thematic filters and augmented reality masks. With their help in the messenger, you can create photos or videos and send them in chats or download them to your smartphone.
On Android or iOS, open the masks section by tapping the camera icon in a Viber chat and then tapping the masks button. You can select the desired effect with a simple flip.
