It turned out that iMac is most often used not for work at all.
Analysts at Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) published new report. It is dedicated to scenarios for using different types of Mac.
For this study, the authors asked Mac users what they most often use their Mac for: work, education, or personal purposes. There were several options to choose from in the survey.
An analysis of the responses made it possible to find out which computers users most often choose for specific tasks. The authors note that although laptops account for 60% of Macs sold, they account for approximately 80% of all use cases.
Among those who use a Mac for education, 85% have a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro, while iMac and Mac Pro account for only 6% and 9%, respectively. The situation is similar with work tasks: 83% have laptops, 7% have Macs, and 10% have Mac Pros.
Among those who use Mac computers for personal purposes, the share of users of desktop models is the highest: 11% own an iMac, and 9% own a Mac Pro.
Interestingly, Mac mini and Mac Studio weren't included in the comparison at all. Probably, the statistics on these users were so insignificant that the researchers focused on four main models. Previous study CIRP showed that the Mac mini accounted for 3% of Apple computer sales, while the Mac Studio accounted for just 1%.
