Apple is expected to release new versions of operating systems in the autumn, including iOS And iPadOS 17, macOS Sonoma, watchOS 10 and tvOS 17. Not all devices will receive these updates, but even if your gadget is in compatible list, not the fact that all new functions will be available to him.

iOS 17

• Reactions with hand gestures. In iOS 17, during FaceTime video calls, the user will be able to use hand gestures to trigger 3D reaction animations. Since this is augmented reality, it will not work with all processors: you need at least A14 Bionic (that is, iPhone 12 and newer).
• More accurate auto-correction. In addition to the improved work of the feature itself, iOS 17 will underline the corrected word for a few seconds so that the user can quickly undo the correction and leave what they originally wrote. In English, French, and Spanish, the new Auto-Correct will only work on iPhone 12 and later, while other supported languages ​​do not have this limitation.

• Voiceover on hover. A new accessibility feature that will allow visually impaired people to interact with objects that have text on them. But the function only works if there is a LiDAR sensor, which means it is only compatible with the iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro and their Max versions.

iPadOS 17

• Reactions with hand gestures. As with iOS, some older tablets won't get this option. These are the iPad mini 5, the 11-inch iPad Pro (second generation and later), the 12.9-inch iPad Pro (fourth generation and later), and the base iPad (ninth generation and later). All new models like iPad Pro and Air with M1/M2 processors and iPad 10 support the new feature.
• More accurate auto-correction. Here the story is the same as on the iPhone: most languages ​​will be supported on all devices compatible with the system, but English, French and Spanish will work on 12.9" iPad Pro (5th generation), 11" iPad Pro (3rd generation), iPad 10, iPad Air 4, iPad mini 6 and newer models.
• FaceTime on Apple TV. With iPadOS 17, you'll be able to use your iPad's camera for FaceTime calls on your Apple TV. However, the feature will only work on iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation), iPad Pro 11-inch (any version), iPad 8, iPad Air 3, iPad mini 5 and later. You will also need a 2nd generation Apple TV 4K.
• Safe distance from the screen. To protect the user's eyesight, iPadOS will learn to warn when they hold the tablet too close to their face and advise them to keep a distance of about 30 centimeters. True, this requires a TrueDepth camera, which means that the function will only work on third-generation Pro models or newer.
• Support for external cameras. iPadOS 17 allows you to connect an external camera for use in video calls. You can even use the built-in camera from Studio Display. However, the feature only works on iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation), iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation), iPad 10, iPad Air 4, iPad mini 6 and newer models.
• Autocomplete PDF. Being able to quickly add your name, address, or other information to documents will require at least iPad 7, 11-inch iPad Pro (2nd generation) or 12.9-inch iPad Pro (4th generation) generations).
• Smart Siri Requests. The new version of the system will allow you to ask Siri sequential questions, and the assistant will "keep in mind" the context of the conversation. But not on the iPad 6/7, 12.9-inch iPad Pro (second generation) and iPad Air 3.

macOS Sonoma

• Game Mode. As the name suggests, the feature will improve the performance of your computer while playing games. To do this, the system will limit resources for background tasks. This will only work on computers with Apple Silicon.
• Quick call to Siri. In iOS 17 and macOS Sonoma, the user no longer has to say hello to the assistant: just say the name of Siri for her to respond. But if you have a Mac with an Intel processor, you will have to say “Hey Siri” the old fashioned way.
• Presentation Overlay. A new mode that allows you to add a webcam image on top of the presentation when sharing the screen. Again, exclusive to computers with M1 and M2.
• Hearing aid support Made for iPhone. The feature speaks for itself: if your hearing aid is iPhone-certified, it will also connect to your Mac – but only if you have a model with an M2 processor.
