Apple explains why third-party watch faces are still not supported on watchOS

Same reason why there are no third party app stores in iOS.
One of the top requests from Apple Watch users over the years has been the ability to use third-party watch faces. However, in the new watchOS 10 this feature never appeared. In an interview with the Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger, Apple Vice President Kevin Lynch and Product Marketing Officer Deirdre Coldbeck commented such a decision.
Lynch said that Apple puts a lot of effort into making sure the watch runs smoothly and without any issues. And if third-party developers had the opportunity to implement their watch faces, then the company could not guarantee such work.
Now Apple is responsible for all watch faces for branded watches, and with each update of the system it checks each of them, guaranteeing support for all innovations, such as gestures or widgets.
Coldbeck added that developers always take into account the opinion of users and try to provide them with all the tools they need. That is why there is a new widget system that allows you to instantly view new events and receive the most important data - this partly solves the problem of the lack of informative dials.
Recall that in watchOS 10, you can turn the clock wheel to bring widgets on top of the watch face and quickly find out everything you need. Moreover, this function will work with any dials.
