VK launches OnePass for authorization without a password

VK announced about the start of testing the OnePass function for password-free authorization in the VKontakte social network, as well as in the services of VK and partners. Users will be able to log into the VK ID account using the authorization technologies built into the devices, for example, by scanning a fingerprint or a face recognition system.

The developers note that data processing takes place on the device itself, so they are not transferred to VK services. Everything works on the basis of passkeys electronic keys, which use the WebAuthn passwordless authorization standard.

Passkeys allow you to sync all devices linked to one account (for example, Apple ID). This simplifies authorization on multiple platforms at the same time and helps to quickly restore an account in case of loss of access to the main device.

WebAuthn will also allow you to use external devices to validate your login. For example, for authorization on a PC, you can use an electronic USB key.

OnePass is already available to some VKontakte users as part of a test. A public launch for the entire audience is planned within a couple of months, before the end of the summer.
