Real performance monsters for professionals.
Followed by 15" MacBook Air Apple showed off a fresh Mac Studio at WWDC. This is the same compact PC that will now be available in two versions - with the already familiar M2 Max and the brand new M2 Ultra chip.
The Ultra version is essentially two M2 Max fused with Apple's Ultra Fusion technology. This solution can offer up to 24 CPU cores and up to 76 graphics cores. This makes the chip 30% faster than the M1 Ultra.
The M2 Ultra supports up to 192GB of combined storage, which is 50% more than the M1 Ultra. A total of 800 GB/s of memory bandwidth is available, along with a 32-core neural engine and 134 billion transistors.
Apple claims that one system with an M2 Ultra GPU can train working machine learning systems that discrete GPUs can't handle due to lack of memory.
In terms of connectors, support for monitors and interfaces, everything is unchanged. The updated Mac Studio will start at $1,999 and will ship on June 13th.
The new Mac Studio will only be available with the M2 Ultra. The PC will offer six available PCIe Gen 4 expansion slots and eight Thunderbolt ports. It can be configured with a 76-core GPU and 192GB of memory.
Apple says the top-spec model can run up to 3x faster than the older Intel version.
The new model will cost $6,999.
