The voice assistant could not stand the competition with AI.
Microsoft stop support Cortana on Windows at the end of 2023. However, after that, it will be available for some time in Outlook Mobile, Microsoft Teams Mobile, Teams Display, and Teams Room.
It didn't come as a big surprise. During the Build conference in May, Microsoft announced its new AI tool. Microsoft 365 Copilot, which will be written on the taskbar. It will perform the same functions as the voice assistant, and even more, emphasize the company. For example, rewrite texts, ask clarifying questions and adjust computer settings.
Microsoft first introduced Cortana to Windows 10 in 2015. With the help of the voice assistant, users could quickly set reminders, open applications, ask about the weather in their city, and so on.
But this project, apparently, did not live up to expectations. Over the past few years, the company has been gradually removing the digital assistant from its products. With the release of Windows 11, it lost its prominent place on the taskbar. Soon after, it disappeared from Surface headphones and other branded devices. And in 2021, support for the Cortana app for iOS and Android ended.
The corporation noted that the project no longer corresponds to its strategy in the field of artificial intelligence. And recommended users to switch to other productsthat use AI.
