Scientists from the University of Copenhagen (Denmark) have found the earliest evidence of romantic kissing between people. They are mentioned in an ancient text from 2500 BC. About it writes Science magazine.
Previously, it was believed that friendly or family kisses were common at all times, but as element of romantic relationships, they appeared only in 1500 BC on the territory of modern India. Now it turned out that they practiced sex at least 1000 years earlier, and not only on the Hindustan Peninsula.
In ancient Mesopotamia, which was located on the territory of modern Iraq, Syria, Iran and Turkey, people wrote in cuneiform on clay tablets. Many of them have survived to this day. And they contain clear examples of the fact that among the local people, kissing was considered part of romantic intimacy.

The researchers also found evidence that kissing was already contributing to the spread of various sexually transmitted diseases, such as herpes. Ancient medical texts refer to this virus as bushanu.
