Miscellaneous / / May 12, 2023
It works even in low light and without internet.
An interesting new project has appeared on Kickstarter crowdfunding: the Nuwa Pen ballpoint pen, which deciphers handwritten text and sends a copy of what is written to a smartphone.
The very idea of digital pens is not new: we already seen similar gadgets, but they usually work only with special notebooks or paper with special markings. Nuwa Pen, on the other hand, works like a regular ballpoint pen and writes on any surface: thanks to the three cameras that are responsible for text recognition in this device.
The accuracy of decoding is increased by motion and pressure sensors, and an infrared sensor is provided at the top of the handle for working in low light conditions.
Nuwa Pen has an Arm Cortex M4 chip with a neuromodule. In combination with special software, it uses data from cameras and sensors to identify written words. Then the data is transferred to the smartphone via Bluetooth LE and duplicated in the cloud. The pen itself has 2 GB of internal memory - in case the smartphone is not nearby or it runs out of power.
Inside the application, you can add tags to scanned records for convenient storage of information, in In the future, they promise fast synchronization with hundreds of applications and platforms for storing and sharing notes.
Responsible for autonomy is a 100 mAh battery, which is enough for 2 hours of continuous operation. It will take 15 minutes to fully charge, so students will have time to charge the gadget between lessons or classes.
The pen uses standard D1 refills, so there is no need to change the entire device or buy special ink from the manufacturer every time.
Nuwa Pen can be ordered on Kickstarter at a price of 179 euros (≈15,100 rubles). The amount necessary to launch the project has already been collected, orders are expected to be sent in March next year. The device comes with a year of Premium subscription - without it, handwriting-to-digital conversion will not work. In the future, the subscription will cost 3 euros per month.
