Statue of 'too sexy' mermaid erected in Italy

In the main square of a fishing village in Puglia in southern Italy established mermaid statue. Even before the official opening, the monument was ridiculed in local social networks.

The statue was sculpted by students of the art school Luigi Rosso in Monopoli. And well-known Italians expressed bewilderment about how sexy young people represent the mermaid.

Art school director Adolfo Marciano defended his students and their provocative statue. According to him, this is a realistic representation of the female body.

“You see ads with very thin models, but the mermaid is a tribute to the vast majority of women with curvaceous forms, especially in our country. It would be very bad if we showed a thin woman. Our sculpting students deserve praise, not criticism,” Marciano said.

The authors of the sexy mermaid also created a statue dedicated to the victims of industrial accidents. She hasn't been introduced yet.
