Two friends on Mars: Ingenuity helicopter filmed Perseverance rover against a sandy landscape
Miscellaneous / / April 26, 2023
NASA helicopter Ingenuity during his 51st flight photographed Perseverance rover. The picture was taken from a height of 12 meters above the surface of Mars.
It is very difficult to see Perseverance in a photo. It is almost indistinguishable from the large rocks scattered across the landscape of the Red Planet.
NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) noted that Ingenuity's 51st flight lasted just under 137 seconds. During this time, he covered a total of 188 meters.
The two robots take turns taking colorful pictures of each other. Just last week, Perseverance filmed Ingenuity, which has already accumulated a huge amount of Martian dust.
The twin-rotor Ingenuity helicopter, weighing 1.8 kilograms, was originally intended to perform all five flights over the Red Planet to determine whether such flights are possible in the Martian atmosphere. It moves along pre-programmed trajectories, since piloting is impossible due to the too large distance between Earth and Mars.
