Opera One browser introduced with automatic tab grouping
Miscellaneous / / April 25, 2023
Already this year it will replace the usual desktop Opera.
Opera launched new browser Opera One. The company claims it has the elements needed for an "AI-powered future." The developers do not go into details, but they talked about the main changes compared to the usual browser.
The main feature was the “Islands of tabs”. This is a method for automatically grouping tabs by content context. For example, if you are looking for where to have dinner, then the tabs with the menu and locations will be combined into one “island”. If you're working on a bunch of documents through Google, they'll come together too.
Each "island" is indicated by a colored vertical bar. By clicking on it, you can hide related tabs so that the focus is only on what is needed now.
For smooth operation of tab groups and the interface as a whole, Opera One is the first among Chromium browsers to use the Multithreaded Compositor architecture. There are no details about the new AI features, but Opera notes that the release will include the integration of ChatGPT and ChatSonic chatbots in the browser by default, which in March
announced for standard Opera. So far, only a test version of browsers for developers is available for download (scroll through this page to the Download Now button). But Opera plans to replace the default browser with the new One later this year for all desktop platforms.
