Google Authenticator learned how to synchronize codes via the cloud
Miscellaneous / / April 25, 2023
The Google Authenticator app used to store one-time passcodes for account security is now supports backup and sync across devices using a Google account.
With this improvement, one-time passwords can now be saved to the cloud, so if you lose device with the Google Authenticator app installed, you will not lose access to all your codes authentication.
Prior to the integration of Google account support, all codes in the Authenticator app were stored on the device, which created problems if the device was lost.
Google says users are now "better protected from blocking." Account integration is already available on iOS and Android devices. Activating the feature will require authorization in the application, after which all codes will be automatically copied and restored on any new device where you sign in to your Google account.
