Introduced MouthPad - a computer mouse that is inserted into the mouth
Miscellaneous / / April 19, 2023
Like a dental guard, only smarter.
American company Augmental introduced MouthPad is an analogue of a computer mouse that is controlled by the tongue, not the fingers. To do this, it is enough to put the device on your teeth, like a regular dental mouth guard or sports protection for teeth.
By touching the cap with your tongue, you can interact with computer interfaces: scroll through pages, control the cursor, and use on-screen keyboards. To do this, the device reads the position of the tongue and the force of pressing on the tray in order to perform the desired action by the user.
Capa signals are processed by a built-in processor with a neural module, and then transmitted to a computer, smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth in the form of gestures understandable for technology: clicks, cursor movement and scrolling. Thus, you can perform any daily activities: send emails, control lighting through a smart home, edit photos and play video games.
It is noteworthy that the use of a mouthguard does not require the user's full attention: in parallel, you can talk and do other things.
Each cap is created for a specific user. First, the oral cavity is scanned to create a 3D model. Based on it, a dental resin mouthguard is formed and printed, which seals a capsule with a flexible board, sensors, a processor and a Bluetooth transmitter. This allows you to protect the electronics from saliva and other liquids.
It is noted that MouthPad works with all popular systems, including iOS, Android, Windows, macOS and Linux. Supports simultaneous connection to multiple devices with the ability to quickly switch.
The device works up to 5 hours without recharging. Charging is carried out through a case - like TWS headphones. The case itself charges via USB-C.
This invention will make it easier to access technology, especially for people with motor disabilities who find it difficult to use conventional mice and touch screens. MouthPad will also be useful for representatives of professions who have both hands occupied during work, including surgeons, astronauts, employees of laboratories and production lines in factories.
So far, the cost and release date of MouthPad have not been announced, but on the site you can sign up for a waiting list to be among the first to know about the start of sales.
