A new operating system and at least two devices, including a potential iPhone killer.
The beginning of 2023 turned out to be calm for Apple: the first major presentation of the company is expected only on June 5-9 as part of the WWDC conference. But Apple promisedthat it will be the largest exhibition ever. New release The Power On mailing list from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman confirms this.
According to an insider with a great track record, Apple is planning the following announcements for June:
- The long-awaited mixed reality headset, presumably named Reality or Reality Pro, is Apple's first new product category in nearly a decade.
- New MacBooks.
- The new xrOS system, on which the new helmet will work, plus application development tools for this system.
- Updates to iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS 14, and watchOS 10 major update.
Gurman clarifies that iOS and iPadOS updates are likely to be passing, but still offer a small list of changes that users have been waiting for. Read more about iOS 17 we already heard
from another insider. And here watchOS 10 will receive more impressive changes, including a redesigned interface. All this is consistent with previous reports. As for the Reality headset, Apple believes that it will not be very popular at release, but over time it will be able to replace the iPhone. In any case, the release immediately after the announcement is not worth waiting for: the manufacturer will give developers several months to create and polish applications before releasing the gadget.
According to Gurman, Apple has quite a few Macs in the works right now: 15" MacBook Air, the updated 13-inch MacBook Air, the base 13-inch MacBook Pro, the 24-inch iMac, the first Mac Pro with an M-series processor, and the next generation of top-end 14” and 16” MacBook Pros. And all this will go on sale this year or early 2024. There are also two sequels to the Mac Studio series in development, but their launch dates are still under discussion.
At least a couple of laptops will be shown at WWDC, but there is a caveat: they most likely will not receive the M3. Instead, we should expect M2 or its new modification.
