New 'Star Wars' starring Rey could be released as early as 2025

Disney held a Star Wars Celebration last week where introduced three upcoming feature films in the Star Wars universe at once. Recall what we know about them:

• James Mangold ("Logan") will direct a film about the first Jedi who mastered the Force.
• Dave Filoni (Avatar: The Last Airbender) is preparing a film about the escalating conflict between the last Imperials and the New Republic. The film should tie in and complete the stories"The Mandalorian», «Boba Fett books”,“ Ahsoka ”and other series.
• Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel) is working on a full-length sequel to Rey's story - 15 years after the movie's finale.Skywalker. Sunrise».

Disney decided not to risk not announcing release dates for projects that have just begun production. But The Hollywood Report received Insider information is that Disney is keeping a December 2025 release date for one of these films for now.

Which of the projects will then be released, even Disney itself does not know yet. Ideally, Lucasfilm wants to return to theaters with a continuation of Rey's story, and a year later to release Filoni's film, but so far this is only the studio's internal hopes.

Now all three films are far from release. The most advanced project with Rey, who recently changed writer: Steven Knight ("Peaky Blinders") took over the project from Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson, who worked on the film before February.

But for Lucasfilm, this story is the safest: it continues the story of the Skywalker family. And while Disney is trying to shift the focus with numerous spin-offs in the universe, saying goodbye to an established brand is difficult.
