Garmin has released a new watch line Instinct 2X after weeks of rumors. It consists of two models with prefixes Solar and Tactical Edition. They have few differences, first we will talk about common features.
The series is positioned as a larger version of Instinct 2 - which also remains on sale. The Instinct 2X received a 50mm case, compared to the 45mm for the Instinct 2 and 40mm for the Instinct 2S. The new version also uses wider 26mm straps.
Accordingly, the Garmin new items are also quite thick and heavy: the 14.5 mm thick case weighs 67 g. This case is waterproof up to 10 ATM and is made of fiber-reinforced polymer. To display content, a 1.1-inch black and white display with a resolution of 176 × 176 pixels is used.
An energy-efficient display and built-in solar panels can provide endless autonomy. But for this, the watch must receive at least three hours of daylight daily. Without light recharge, the built-in battery should last up to 40 days in normal smartwatch mode and 27 hours with all satellite systems and multi-band GPS.
Also, the new Instinct 2X is equipped with a flashlight that can shine in red or white light with four levels of brightness. Apps are downloaded from the Connect IQ Store, and the watch comes preloaded with Garmin workout and health apps. For contactless payment, Garmin Pay is used (does not work in Russia).
The Tactical version adds to the characteristics of the Solar model a night vision mode that makes the display readable when wearing night vision goggles, as well as a mode to disconnect the watch from the network. An emergency switch and a ballistic calculator are also provided.
The Garmin Instinct 2X Solar is $450 for the Instinct 2X Solar and shipping in red, grey, green and white. The Instinct 2X Tactical Edition is only available in black and beige and costs $500.
