Scientists have discovered the remains of an ancient ocean floor near the Earth's core

Only relatively small pieces of rock have survived to our time.
It is believed that the core of the Earth is a ball consisting of an alloy of iron with impurities. But this is not the only thing of interest in the center of the Earth. New study American scientists draws attention to the unexpected ancient structures surrounding the core.
The researchers relied on data obtained from 15 seismological stations installed in the ice of Antarctica. These stations pick up seismic waves passing under the surface of the planet. By studying these waves, you can learn more about the composition of the Earth deep below the surface.
Data collected by seismic stations show that the ancient structure surrounding the Earth's core has valleys and mountains. This is indicated by the fact that the thickness of the rock varies from place to place. Scientists believe that this structure may be the remains of an ancient ocean floor that lies beneath the surface of our planet.
Of course, we have no way to go to the core or drill to such a depth, so new data remains only the assumptions of scientists. Other options cannot be completely ruled out, but so far the remains of the ancient ocean floor near the planet's core are the most likely explanation for the recorded seismic activity.
Understanding what lies below the Earth's surface is of great importance to scientists. On this depends the ability to better understand and predict the behavior of the magnetic field - which, among other things, protects us from solar radiation.
