The Bank of Russia spoke about a new fraud scheme with QR codes

Now attackers do without card data. Such are modern technologies.
In the Telegram channel of the Central Bank appeared a description of a new criminal scheme that is actively used by scammers. This is another variation of calls from bank employees, but it can surprise those who think that their money cannot be stolen without a code from an SMS.
Fraudsters seek to get a QR code for cash withdrawal without a card, hoping that a technically unsavvy user will take a picture with a code more lightly than their card details.
The schema usually looks like this:
- The scammer calls, pretending to be a bank employee.
- Indicates that someone has requested a withdrawal from the account and asks for confirmation.
- When the client says that he does not confirm the operation, the caller asks to send a QR code to cancel and tells how to do it.
- Having received the code, the fraudster can bring it to the ATM scanner and withdraw cash without physical access to the card and knowledge of its details.
The Central Bank notes that real bank employees do not ask customers for QR codes to confirm or cancel any transactions. Pictures with a QR code should not be saved to a smartphone, printed, and even more so sent to someone.
Do not forget to tell your loved ones about it - especially the older ones.
