Google will require applications to have the ability to delete an account
Miscellaneous / / April 06, 2023
Apple introduced a similar policy last June.
Google announced about the new user profile policy for Android apps. Now, any mobile service that offers account creation will also have to offer an easy way to delete an account. The company said it will begin implementing this policy early next year.
The new rules also require developers to remove user data from their servers when an account is deleted. If a developer needs to store user data for certain reasons, he will need to specify this in his application.
Google also noted that with this new policy, the company will tweak the "Data Security" section of the Play Store to better reflect the data controls available to them.
Users will begin to see specific icons for deleting their details in Google Play apps whose developers have filled out the appropriate forms and made changes to the code.
With this policy, Google followed the example of Apple, which introduced a similar policy on June 30, 2022 for apps in the App Store.
