Android 14 will allow you to use your smartphone instead of a webcam

Developer Mishaal Rahman informed about the appearance in the latest version of the AOSP repository of a service called "DeviceAsWebCam". As the name implies, it will allow you to use your Android phone as a webcam.

It appears that this will require you to connect your Android 14 device to your computer via USB. This is different from Apple's Continuity Camera technology, which lets you use your iPhone instead of a webcam without a cable.

Most likely, a device with Android 14 will be able to work with all computers: from Windows to Chrome OS and Mac. True, how to fix the smartphone in a comfortable position next to the PC screen will have to be decided by the user himself. A special holder, cradle, stand, or case with a leg may be required.

By and large, you can still use an Android smartphone as a webcam for a PC. But this requires root rights and some device settings - today, few users continue to engage in such manipulations.
