Apple launches new Mac mini with M2 and M2 Pro processors

On January 17, Apple released the new Mac mini. The novelty has a familiar design, but fresh filling - powerful proprietary processors M2 and M2 Pro. They deliver professional-grade performance with industry-leading energy efficiency, according to the company.

Mac mini with M2

Mac mini with M2 is equipped with an 8-core processor with four performance and four energy-efficient cores, as well as a 10-core graphics accelerator.

With up to 24 GB of combined memory and 100 GB/s bandwidth, activities such as image editing in Adobe Photoshop, are now 50% faster, and video editing in Final Cut Pro is more than twice as fast (compared to the previous generation).

The model with the M2 can also play up to two streams of 8K ProRes 422 video at 30fps or up to 12 streams of 4K ProRes 422 simultaneously.

This Mac mini is up to 5 times faster than the best-selling Windows desktop, Apple said.

Mac mini with M2 Pro

The M2 Pro delivers top-level performance for the first time. It has a 12-core processor with eight high-performance cores and four power-efficient ones, as well as a 19-core graphics accelerator. The memory bandwidth is 200 GB/s.

The next generation Neural Engine is 40% faster than the M1. It helps speed up machine learning tasks like video analysis and image processing.

M2 Pro also offers a powerful media engine that speeds up the most popular video codecs and can play up to five simultaneous streams of 8K ProRes 422 at 30 fps or up to 23 streams of 4K video ProRes 422.

The M2 Pro-powered Mac min is up to 14x faster than the fastest Intel-based Mac mini.

The base Mac mini with the M2 has two Thunderbolt 4 ports with support for two displays, while the Pro version has four Thunderbolt 4 ports and support for up to three displays. Both models are equipped with two USB-A ports, HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet and an upgraded headphone jack. Both also support Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 standards.

Availability

The new Mac mini with M2 and M2 Pro is available to order in the US and select countries today, January 17th. Delivery will be carried out from January 24th.

Mac mini with M2 starts at $599, and Mac mini with M2 Pro starts at $1299 (≈41,600 and 90,100 rubles respectively).
