The Ministry of Digital Transformation warns about hijacking of Telegram accounts using a gift subscription

Users of the Telegram messenger began to face massive attempts to steal their accounts. Just the other day we wrote about the fraudulent scheme with children's contests, as followed by the Ministry of Digital Development reported about another trick of the attackers - with a gift in the form of a Premium subscription.
It works in a similar way:
- The user receives a message from one of the contacts that he sent a gift - a subscription to Telegram Premium.
- When you click on the receive button, the user immediately receives an authorization code. On the screen with the gift, it says that this code must be entered to activate the subscription.
- The user enters the code, and his account is immediately opened on the attacker's computer.
- Fraudsters immediately send such messages to the entire list of contacts and remove them from the sent list. At the same time, the message remains with the recipients.
Only two-factor authentication will help protect against account theft. With it, even after entering the code, attackers will need to enter a password that only the account owner knows.
Two-factor authentication is enabled in the settings under "Privacy". If you have already followed the link and sent the code, then go to the settings, select "Devices" → "Active sessions" and click on the link "End all other sessions". And then turn on two-factor authentication.
