Lifehacker's Best Android App of 2022
Miscellaneous / / April 05, 2023
We sum up the results of the outgoing year and choose the best of the best. Here is the opinion of the editors, and you can determine the winner by voting.
We choose Bromite as the best Android app this year. This is a web browser based on Chrome, but without its drawbacks.
You may have noticed that Chrome has undergone some rather strange changes over the past couple of years. For example, a convenient image search was removed from it, replacing it with an indistinct Google Lense. And they added an inconvenient grouping of tabs, which you still need to be able to disable.
Finally, everyone knows how this browser loves to track your activities on the Web and report them to Google in order to “better” show ads.
Bromite is a Chrome clone based on the same Chromium source code as the brainchild of Google. However, there are not all those annoying little things that are so annoying in the latter. Bromite has retained a convenient image search and tab sorting. The source code of the browser is open.
In addition, Bromite has built-in tracking protection and an ad blocker, and you can add your own filters to it.
Otherwise, it's still the same fast Chrome with a user-friendly interface that we are all so used to. So, if you're thinking about changing your mobile browser but Firefox, Vivaldi, and Kiwi seem a little too out of the ordinary for you, this option is definitely worth a try.
Bromite cannot be downloaded from Google Play, but can be easily installed from the official website by clicking the Download Bromite button at the bottom of the page. The main thing is to make sure that you have permission to install third-party APKs in Android settings.
