New Outlook on Windows gets Gmail and Google Calendar support

The iron curtain has fallen, support for Yahoo and iCloud is next.
Microsoft at last adds support for Gmail accounts in Outlook on Windows, a new client that replaces the Mail app.
Previously, only Microsoft accounts could be connected in the application, but now the company intends to give users access to all their mail in one place - on any computer running Windows 10 and 11.
Notably, Gmail support in Outlook also adds the ability to use Google Calendar and Contacts. Classic Outlook for Windows didn't have these features, but Microsoft notes that users often asked for them.
Judging by the interface of the screen for adding a new account, soon the application will also support iCloud and Yahoo mailboxes.
So far, Mail remains the default email client for Windows, but users with a subscription Microsoft 365 and access to the Office Insider program already have an offer to try the new outlook. The corresponding slider appears in Mail, Calendar, and the older version of Outlook desktop. It is likely that a full transition to the new application will occur with one of the next Windows updates.
