Editor site The Next Web spoke with Brian Mueller - app creator Carrot Weather, Which recently appeared in the Mac App Store. Mueller unhappy with Apple's policy about paid upgrades. And he has a reasonable argument.
Carrot Weather Brian was the first experience in the Mac App Store. Contrary to the opinion that the application store for Mac - this cemetery, Brian says that revenue from the Mac-version roughly equal revenues from iOS-version.
However, there is another problem. Developers difficult to decide when to stop free to update the application and release version 2.0. And even with a large user base, try again to make a second version of the fee, and you do not understand.
Such a situation occurred with Tweetbot, Fantastical and Airmail, and in all cases users were dissatisfied with the fact that they have to pay money for a second time. And they may not need all the functionality of the new version. Suffice it to pop-up window or an updated interface. But there is no choice - you still have to pay the full amount.
According to Bryan, and many other developers, the problem is easily solved. Apple needs to enter the App Store and Mac App Store paid upgrades. So that users can purchase an upgrade for a fraction of the cost of the application.
Now instead of having to concentrate on the reinvestment of time and money in updating the current application, developers have to create a new version from scratch. And just to get paid for their work.
Paid upgrade can be an advantage for developers is also due to the rankings. Airmail Airmail will remain with the thousands in the ranking that before. Brian believes that Apple be sure to enter the paid upgrades. And the sooner, the better.
