How did the series "Frozen" turn out - a Russian mixture of "Dexter", "True Detective" and "Bridge"

On December 1, Okko hosted the premiere of the first season of the series Frozen. The main characters are trying to find a maniac who kills Russians with cold.

The director of the project was Adilkhan Yerzhanov (“Black, Black Man”), Alexander Matveev (“Servant of the People”) and Maxim Ivanov (“Patient Zero”) worked on the script. The main roles were played by Artyom Bystrov ("Fool") and Lena Tronina ("Aurora"). The producer of the series is Alexander Tsekalo, who has "Method" to his credit.

A frozen woman is found in the provincial town of Kostomuksha. Her husband, investigator Yevgeny Rudin, together with his assistant Maria, begins an investigation. A strange maniac continues to kill people, leaving them to freeze in the cold, and Rudin ruins his life, trying to get on the trail.

Investigators work too bad

Despite the fact that Frozen is a detective, there is no need to wait for an interesting investigation. About who actually kills people, the audience is informed already in the second series. It remains to wait for the moment when the investigators find out about this, but problems arise.

Absolutely all the police and investigators in the "Frozen" work terribly. They may not notice the evidence that is under their noses, and then ignore all the matches.

For example, the killer leaves a license plate at the crime scene. A day passes, and, discussing the circumstances of the death, the investigators, as if in passing, offer to check who owns the number - for them this is an unexpected idea. A pathologist can examine a body that has a bullet wound in it, and then not notice that the bullet itself was pulled out and stolen.

However, even the utter connivance of the characters does not interfere with the investigation, because the evidence is right on the head. As soon as the heroes look into a random urn, stare at a window or fall into a snowdrift, they immediately discover valuable information.

The main character is annoying

Already in the first series it becomes clear that the main character is not a very good person. With each subsequent episode, his vile nature is revealed more and more. At first he seems like an asshole with a fine mental organization and uncontrollable outbursts of rage, then an unbearable idiot.

There is nothing wrong with such a hero, but the people around him do not seem to notice who they are dealing with. They seem to be saying “well, yes, a little crazy” about a person who beats every second person he meets, directs pistol for every third person and repeats the word “I will close it”, that is, I will plant it, hinting at the consequences for those who are not with him agree.

Empty characters do not cause empathy

Each minor character is more like an NPC from games. Simple phrases, the same location and clothes - except that they do not give quests. Lena Tronina, one of the most interesting young Russian actresses, plays a big nothing - her character simply has no personality. Investigator Maria is a spot that regularly flickers near the main character, she is no longer remembered by anything. It seems that only a maniac has at least some semblance of personality, but it is lost against the background of an attempt to make him as crazy as possible.

By about the fourth series, you can even forget that the woman who died at the beginning of the series was related to the main characters. Husband, ex-husband and son are so immersed in their own affairs that they do not care about the loss of a loved one. The lack of empathy in the characters makes it impossible to sympathize with them.

Viewers are taken for fools

Sometimes the authors of the series consider the audience to be idiots, so they show scenes that explain what is happening. For example, before the murder, the villain will definitely take out a weapon and even look at him carefully to the ominous music - well, to be completely villainous. The discovery of evidence is accompanied by frames that show who exactly they can lead to.

“Do you know who has the red jacket?” the writers ask intriguingly, referring to the man shown ten times wearing a red jacket. And then they show it again.

But the stupidity doesn't end there. If you were infuriated by songs in cartoons as a child, then the fifth series of "Frozen" will remind you of what feelings you experienced. At a completely inopportune moment, the heroes sing the song of Viktor Tsoi to the guitar. At the same time, the sound is not even processed - that is, we see how people open their mouths to a song recorded in the studio.

History doesn't deserve this kind of timing.

The first episode looks like noir. Quiet province fraught with danger, emotional characters, ever-falling snow seasoned with a non-trivial plot. However, everything that the viewer learns about the characters in the first series is relevant until the very end - nothing will change. Already by the third episode, the series goes astray into self-repetitions, and on the fifth it becomes unbearable.

The entire season is 350 minutes long, too long for a series where everything is predetermined in the first episode. It seems that this story could fit in 100 minutes.

Borrowing doesn't help.

"Frozen" resembles a large encyclopedia of the series of the last decade. Season 3 of Dexter, Season 2 of True Detective, Season 1 of The Bridge, the writers take whatever they like, but they can't combine the elements. It turns out porridge, not a series that you want to watch.

It's funny, but according to the same principles, another project by Alexander Tsekalo was made - "Method": then the authors did not even hide the sources of inspiration (the same "Dexter" and "True Detective", but the first season). But the "Method" had the charisma of Khabensky, understandable characters and development from the first series to the last - "Frozen" fizzles out in the middle.

Frozen is a series with an intriguing start that turns into boring reruns by the middle of the season. The annoying protagonist, as well as the completely ridiculous investigation of the crime, are definitely not worth the 350 minutes spent. However, the moment when the characters begin to sing can be considered a sure signal to stop watching.
