Restoring Viber on your phone is quite simple. After installing the program, you need to enter your old contact number and password. If the account has been deactivated, you will have to register a new one.

According to the developers, Viber user data is not stored on servers. But correspondence from the application can be copied to cloud storage or written to the smartphone’s memory, so that later it can be loaded back into the program.

The sequence of steps for copying and restoring is almost the same for Android and iOS. All manipulations should be carried out precisely from a mobile device - this cannot be done from a computer.

How to back up Viber chats

Restoring data from the cloud storage only works if it has been configured in advance. After installing the program and entering personal information, Viber will automatically offer to download a backup copy.

It will only be available for use on the same phone number and Google or Apple account that originally started the reservation. Here's how to do it:

1. Open Viber and go to settings.
2. Find the "Account" tab, then open "Backup".
3. Connect Google Drive on Android or iCloud on iOS.
4. Choose to copy only via Wi‑Fi or via mobile networks too. Specify whether to save photos and videos to the cloud.
5. Set the time interval after which the upload will be repeated.
6. Click Create Now.

Forward a message to a friend

Another, less convenient option for recovering correspondence is to ask a friend or colleague to forward all or some of your messages to you. So you can prepare for possible failures and reinstallation in advance.

1. Go to the desired chat.
2. Tap and hold next to one of the messages.
3. The selection tool is activated. Select all the entries you want to forward.
4. Click on the arrow icon in the lower right corner of the screen. A list of contacts to whom you can send messages will open.
5. Mark everyone to whom you would like to forward the chat. Tap on the send button.

How to restore chats in Viber after deletion

When reinstalling, Viber will offer to restore the backup of correspondence immediately after entering and activating the phone number. But you can also download saved chats from an already installed application. To do this, proceed as follows:

1. Open Viber's main settings and go to "Account" → "Backup".
2. At the bottom of the page, click the Restore button.
3. Select the Google Drive or iCloud account you want to download the chat backup from. If you have already restored them before, then Viber will automatically determine the source with the saved correspondence. Click "Restore Now".
4. Wait for the process to complete. The chats will appear in the app.

If you set up a backup, then after reinstalling the account will not differ from the state before deletion. Chats will contain all the texts and multimedia files that you exchanged with users.

Recovering deleted messages without backups will only work with the help of friends. Ask to forward you previously sent messages in the conversation.
