But they can be turned off completely.
Stories (stories) now available to all users of the Signal messenger, which allows you to create and share images, videos and text. Such content will automatically expire after 24 hours.
The feature was first announced last month on the Signal Community Forum, where it was initially made available to beta testers. It is now rolling out in the latest version of the Signal mobile app (v6.0) for all Android and iOS users. Desktop support will be coming soon.
Stories can be created for situations where you only want to share content with a specific group of people. Users will be able to control who can see their stories by going to Settings → Stories. Any member of existing group chats can view the shared history as well as other members' comments and reactions.
Like all features built into Signal, stories are fully encrypted and therefore not available to anyone you have not specified to view them, including Signal itself.
For those who do not want to see the stories of other users or create and share them themselves, there is a function to completely disable the function: "Settings" → "Stories" → "Turn off stories". Signal will not notify contacts or friends that you have opted out of seeing their stories.
