After updating to iOS 16.1, smartphones spontaneously disconnect from Wi-Fi
Miscellaneous / / April 04, 2023
Apple has not yet acknowledged this problem, but an unofficial solution is already out there.
iPhone users with iOS 16.1 complain that the smartphone regularly disconnects from Wi-Fi for no apparent reason, and there were no such problems before the update. Posts about it appear on Twitter, Reddit and forums Apple Support.
Problem descriptions vary. Some users write that the iPhone disconnects from Wi-Fi randomly and regularly, for some, the connection is lost when the smartphone is not used for a long time (for example, at night). There are also complaintsthat Wi-Fi connects and disconnects at intervals of a few seconds. There are also reports of similar issues with iPads on iPadOS 16.1.
Resetting network settings and even completely resetting the device to factory settings does not always help, but on the Apple forum found alternative solution:
- Open your smartphone settings and go to the "Privacy" section.
- Select Location Services. Make sure this feature is enabled (the switch on top is green).
- Scroll down to System Services.
- Move the switch next to "Data and wireless networks" to the inactive position.
Apple has not yet commented on this situation. It is not clear whether it is worth waiting for an interim fix, or the bug will be closed only with the release of iOS 16.2 in November.
