NASA collided space probe with an asteroid - there is a video
Miscellaneous / / April 04, 2023
A huge stone wandering in space.
On the night of September 27, the DART mission reached its climax when the NASA spacecraft crashed into the asteroid Dimorph. Hit confirmed video footage from the probe itself.
When the asteroid first came into view, we really had no idea what to expect. We didn't even know the shape of the asteroid, but we knew where we were going to hit. So I think we all held our breath. I'm a little surprised that none of us lost consciousness for a second.

The collision of a probe with an asteroid should help to find out whether humanity is able to protect the Earth from the fall of large space objects. Now telescopes around the world will monitor the change in the trajectory of the Dimorph. It can take several months to assess the success of a mission.
Also in the near future, NASA will receive footage of the collision from the LUCIACube observation satellite, which was released by the probe a few days ago. It will allow you to assess the moment of impact from the side.
By itself, Dimorph, a satellite of the asteroid Didyma, does not pose any danger to the Earth. However, its dimensions, about 160 meters in diameter, make it possible to classify it as an object that can cause great damage if it falls on our planet.
