11 movies about a split personality that will surprise or scare you

This list did not include films in which the hero's split personality is a critical spoiler for the plot. Otherwise, we would just spoil your viewing pleasure.

11. Jekyll and Hyde

Robert Louis Stevenson's The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde has been screened dozens of times. Many still consider the paintings of the 30s and 40s to be the best, while modern experiments are scolded. However, the British version, in which Michael Caine played, will also please fans of the classics - the plot was kept close to the original, and the great actor did an excellent job with two roles.

9. Frankie and Alice

Many critics scolded the film with Halle Berry, saying that it was too long. But even in negative reviews, they admit that the actress herself did an excellent job with the role.

8. Me, me and Irene again

The main character suffers split personality: sometimes he is kind and helpful Charlie, and sometimes he is rude and aggressive Hank. Echoes of the classic story about Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are noticeable in this picture. But Jim carrey turned the plot into a traditional plastic comedy. That does not cancel the dramatic component.

Walter Black runs a toy company. He has a wife and two children. And Walter has been depressed for more than a year now. But gradually he captures the whole life of Black.

This movie might seem simple black comedyif it wasn't for the final. One major twist takes The Beaver to the next level and makes you wonder just how deep emotional wounds can be and how hard it is to get rid of them.

Second film Marvel Cinematic Universe Based on the comic book series of the same name. Interestingly, the main role in it was played by Edward Norton, who had previously starred in several films about people with a split personality. True, then he was replaced by Mark Ruffalo.

A 1980 painting by Brian de Palma caused a lot of controversy. The feminist community accused the director of showing violence for the sake of entertainment. At the same time, critics and the public praised the intricate plot and tense atmosphere. And Nancy Allen, who played Liz, strangely received nominations for both the Golden Globe and the Golden Raspberry.

The film is based on the book of the same name by two psychiatrists. And the original work, in turn, is written according to real history their patient Chris Costner Sizemore.

3. David and Lisa

David and Lisa

David is sent to a psychiatric clinic where he meets Lisa. She has two personalities: one speaks only in rhymes, the other is completely silent. The characters get closer, but each of them will have to deal with their own problems.

This film can be called a melodrama or even a romantic story. Director Frank Perry made his film debut with this picture, and his wife wrote the script. Each of the couple received an Oscar nomination for their work.

A stranger kidnaps three girls and puts them to sleep in a car park. They wake up in a basement. Soon, the captives find out that 24 personalities coexist in the body of their captor. And the last one is the scariest.

The movie is mostly based on acting. James McAvoy. Without changing outwardly, he portrayed a psychopath, a woman and even a child. Some of the images turned out a little grotesque, but still catchy.

The image of Aaron became the debut of Edward Norton in a big movie. Perhaps the role of a young man suffering from mental disorders determined the future career of an actor.
