Apple has started selling refurbished iPhone 13s. How to distinguish them from new ones?
Miscellaneous / / April 04, 2023
Externally, the devices are indistinguishable, but it’s easy to notice the catch by the box and model number.
Apple has begun selling refurbished iPhone 13 series smartphones in the UK, Germany, Italy and Spain. Later they should appear in other countries, including the United States.
So far, only the iPhone 13 mini in the Midnight shade, as well as the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max in the Graphite variant, are available in this format. In all cases, the discount is 15%. Model and color availability will vary by country and remanufactured availability.
Official refurbished iPhones are used devices that Apple has brought to a presentable condition for resale. However, used equipment gives little away here: before selling devices, they change the battery and case, clean it, test it and put it in a new box with a new charging cable. Such an iPhone will have a limited 12-month warranty, you can even connect AppleCare +.
It is easy to distinguish such a device from a new one: instead of an image of a smartphone, only the model name and the inscription Apple Certified Pre-Owned are printed on the box. All boxes of refurbished iPhones are white, so in the case of Pro versions, the difference is even more noticeable: for new smartphones, they should be black.
With a high probability, such devices will soon appear in Russia. Not all sellers indicate that the smartphone is officially refurbished, and not just new, so pay attention to the packaging before buying.
If you are buying not a packaged, but a used smartphone and are ready to take a model without a box to save money, look at device information in settings. A refurbished one will start with an F in the model number, while a new one will start with an M. Also, in this scenario, it does not hurt to check the smartphone for activation lock: if it is, you will not be able to use the device normally, regardless of whether it is restored or not.
