Find out if you could understand primates in the wild.
A new study by scientists from the University of St. Andrews (Scotland, UK) says that people can understand about half of the gestures of chimpanzees and bonobos. Scientific article this was published in the journal PLOS Biology.
5,500 people took part in the experiment of British scientists. All of them had to pass a test with small videos, where monkeys communicate with gestures in the wild, without preparation.
Each video was supplemented with answer options to choose from. The user had to choose the one that, in his opinion, conveys the meaning of the primate gesture.
The results of such a quiz proved that in at least 50% of cases people easily guessed the correct answer. Details of the interaction context only marginally improved these scores.
By words According to these findings, it cannot be said that understanding of gestures is the result of evolution as a hereditary trait, or that we are the same social species with high intelligence. However, it shows that despite all our gadgets and society, we are still apes.
Take the test anyone can. Share your results in the comments.
