We are more willing to change for the better to help others.
Scientists have conducted a new study to better understand why it is so difficult to change your life for the better. AND determined two ways to painlessly exit from comfort zones. The results are published in the Journal of Positive Psychology.
The participants in the experiment were randomly divided into two groups. Some did something unusual for themselves for two weeks, while others remained in their comfort zone. And then the scientists measured their levels self-esteem.
It turned out that activity on the border of the comfort zone increases the level of happiness among respondents with relatively low life satisfaction. Moreover, the most positive changes were most often observed in those who sacrificed habituality for the sake of helping other people — students with hearing impairments, cancer patients or children from orphanages.
According to the author of the study, Dr. Pninit Russo-Netzer, some of the positive changes were due to the fact that that the participants in the experiment were allowed to decide for themselves what unusual activity they would be study.
Such an attitude instills a sense of independence, promotes the intrinsic motivation that comes with personal choice, maintains a sense of comfort and security.

After scientists figured out the obstacles that prevent people from changing for the better, and figured out how they can be overcome.
First, you need to regularly engage in introspection. To do this, you can write down all the activities that you want to try and that are different from what you usually do. This will help you become more aware of your comfort zone range.
Then act: set a specific time for one of these activities, write down your feelings and results.
Secondly, you need to experiment with something pleasant. adore prepare? Try a new taste. Do you like to travel? Act like a tourist in your own city. Have you ever wanted to try a new hobby but didn't have time for it? Start right now.
And curiosity and involvement can be developed if you consider experience as a chance to discover something new in yourself, the authors of the study note.
