VK, Yandex, Sberbank and Rostelecom will create a mobile OS based on Android

The Ministry of Digital Development is going to connect a consortium of developers to the development of the domestic mobile ecosystem. To do this, VK, Yandex, Sberbank and Rostelecom are planning to establish a separate company. It will develop a platform based on the open source Android code and create compatible mobile services to replace Google Mobile Services (GMS). About it writes "Kommersant".

The source of the publication notes that so far there is no formal consortium, but major players are ready to unite to develop a mobile OS. It is needed by everyone who wants their applications to have adequate functionality.

The development of the new OS does not contradict Rostelecom's plans to develop a mobile ecosystem based on the Aurora OS. The latter will be used in the corporate and public sector, while the new OS will be aimed at the consumer segment.

It will be easier to launch a mobile services platform for an OS based on open Android than for the Aurora OS, one of Kommersant's sources added.
