Russia ranks fifth in the world in terms of new HIV infections

The leaders are seven African countries, as well as Brazil and India.
The United Nations and the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control estimate that 10 countries accounted for almost half of all new infections in 2021 HIV. And Russia in this list takes the fifth place. Data leads analytical company Statista.
The leader in the number of new cases was South Africa, which accounted for 14% of the total. Next come Mozambique, Nigeria, India with a total share of 15.6%. Russia accounted for 3.9% of cases.
Tanzania, Uganda, Brazil, Zambia and Kenya are also in the top 10 of this anti-rating.
And while the number of new infections has fallen from 2.9 million in 2000 to 1.5 million in the past, The number of people living with HIV has increased from 26 million to more than 38 million in the last two decades.
According to the Joint United Nations Program on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS), this figure reflects not only the increase in new cases infection, but also shows progress in the treatment of HIV with antiretroviral therapy, which has significantly improved the prospects infected.
