Time-lapse app released on iPhone that doesn't require you to stay in one place

It can be downloaded for free from the App Store.
Although the time-lapses look impressive, not everyone is ready to stand for several hours or leave the camera in one place to get a cool video. This is especially inconvenient on a smartphone: during shooting, you will not be able to use its other functions, and the battery can run out too quickly. Researchers at Cornell University solved this problem and developed Recapture application.
It helps to take pictures of the same locations from the same position in order to collect time-lapses for a long time without leaving the smartphone in one place. For example, you can take a picture of the park you pass by on your way to work every day, and then mount a GIF showing how the place has changed over the course of a month or a year.
The main thing here is the perfect angle and distance to the object, so that the video does not require a huge amount of processing and adjustment of each frame. To do this, ReCapture offers three capture modes: overlay, 3D map, and light field. The first is suitable for landscapes and landscapes, the second is for shooting with an emphasis on a key subject, the third is for shooting with an emphasis on several objects. Everyone uses algorithms and augmented reality to find the right camera position.
To get started, you need to create a new project and take the first frame. When you're ready for the next one, you need to click on the same project and select ReCapture and follow the on-screen instructions to capture a similar shot. After shooting, an animation will appear comparing the current photo and the previous one, plus two buttons: save and automatically adjust the angle. When there are enough frames, you need to select the desired photos, click "View" and save the result as a GIF.
In the application, you can store several projects and replenish them in parallel. ReCapture also uses GPS to automatically bring the project to the top of the list with the location you are closest to.
Anyone can download ReCapture for iOS. The app is free and works on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch with iOS 14.5 and later. Support is also announced for Macs with Apple processors and macOS version 11.3 or higher.
