Russia will cancel international roaming with Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan

Russia will cancel international cellular roaming with countries that are members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia. The corresponding annex to the request of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has already been sent to all major mobile operators of the allied states and the Russian Ministry of Economic Development. In its letter, the EEC asks for data on the number of subscribers, the volume and cost of cellular services provided. communications to subscribers of the EAEU member states from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2022, as well as information on received income.
The request is supplemented by a roaming cancellation roadmap. According to her data:
- operators, after carrying out analytical work, should begin measures to prevent fraud (fraud) on their networks;
- further, by the end of 2024, they will develop “rules for the use of fair tariffs for communication services on the territory of the Member States”;
- by the first quarter of 2025, companies must reduce international interconnect and introduce appropriate tariffs for cellular communication services for subscribers of the EAEU states.
In other words, the abolition of roaming can only be expected in a year and a half.
