Elon Musk urged to suspend large experiments with AI

Non-profit organization Future of Life Institute has published an open letter signed by Elon Musk, co-founder of Apple Steve Wozniak, Skype co-founder Jaan Tallinn, as well as other AI researchers and executives from large companies.
The letter alleges that the labs are locked in an "out of control race" to develop and apply machine learning systems that “no one—not even their creators—can understand, predict, or confidently control". Here's what the authors suggest:
We call on all AI labs to immediately suspend training on AI systems greater than GPT-4 for at least 6 months. The suspension of operations must be public and verifiable, and all key players must be involved. If it is not possible to pause in the near future, the governments of the countries should step in and impose a moratorium.

The letter also expresses dissatisfaction with the position “we will release it as it is, we will fix it later” when developing neural networks (remember at least
bard from Google). Even OpenAI has already raised the potential need for future AI security audits. The authors of the letter believe that this future has already arrived.AI developers and independent experts should use this break to jointly develop and implement unified security protocols for complex AI systems, compliance with which will be checked by external independent experts. Such protocols will help ensure that systems are safe enough to use.
