Spotify has announced a redesign of the main page. The new version focuses on visual content with large preview cards and video recommendations that can be flipped like TikTok.
The main goal of the new recommendations is to make it easier to find new content. If the user notices something potentially interesting, it will be enough to click on the “+” icon to add a track or podcast to the library. You can also start listening right away.
In this case, your favorite playlists will remain on top of the main screen, the recommendations will be below.
Spotify is also adding a Smart Shuffle mode. When randomly playing tracks from a custom playlist, it will periodically add new songs that the AI considers similar in mood or sound. Such compositions will be marked with a special icon and will appear every 3 tracks in playlists of 15 songs or more. The recommended tracks will be different each time you listen to the playlist.
Another new feature is aimed at musicians. They will be able to add a countdown to new releases on their page. In this case, users will be able to watch the teaser and download the music in advance to listen to it on the release, even if they are offline. This is analogous to preloading games on consoles.
All these features have already begun rolling out to Spotify users around the world. Previews for music and podcasts will be available for regions where Spotify podcasts are available, and Smart Shuffle will require a Premium subscription.
