Tips for not feeling like an ad frog.
How to understand that the stomach is not working
When it seems to a person that the food seems to have stopped digest, they say that the stomach has risen or does not work. This feeling is also called indigestion or - most correctly - dyspepsia. This is not an independent disease, but a symptom of other conditions.
Most often, dyspepsia occurs if a person overeats or drinks too much. But it can also indicate more serious problems, such as gastric atony, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), or a malignant tumor.
Symptoms may vary depending on the cause, but will roughly as follows:
- feeling of rapid filling of the stomach without saturation;
- long-lasting feeling of a full stomach;
- discomfort and burning in the upper abdomen;
- bloating;
- nausea;
- sometimes heartburn, vomiting and belching.
Why can the stomach stand up
Most often this connected with lifestyle and can be caused by:
- overeating;
- rapid ingestion of food;
- fatty or spicy foods;
- abuse of caffeine, alcohol, chocolate or carbonated drinks;
- smoking;
- anxiety.
Also stomach rises:
- After taking certain medications - non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, iron supplements, some antibiotics.
- Due to gastritis and stomach ulcers.
- Against the background of malignant diseases of the esophagus and stomach.
- Because of GERD.
- With a delay in emptying the stomach, when food remains in it longer than necessary. This condition is called gastroparesis, or atony of the stomach. The problem is usually associated with poor nerve function (eg, due to diabetes, neurological disorders), connective tissue diseases, complications after surgery.
When to See a Doctor for Stomach Problems
Call an ambulance if feel:
- shortness of breath
- sweating;
- change in heartbeat;
- pain radiating to the arm.
It could be heart attack.
Also alert must have the following signs:
- loss of appetite;
- frequent vomiting and nausea;
- weight loss;
- blood in kale;
- difficulty and pain when swallowing;
- signs of indigestion that do not go away even with medication;
- symptoms that occur with exercise or stress and disappear with rest.
They need to see a doctor as soon as possible. They can indicate serious diseases, including malignant ones.
If you do not have these signs, but the stomach rises more than once a week, still go to the therapist. Better to rule out more serious conditions. To do this, you will need to pass tests and, possibly, undergo an in-depth examination. For example, to do a gastroscopy.
How to help the stomach with indigestion
There are not many options. Cleveland Clinic Experts advise drink an over-the-counter digestive medicine (enzymes, prokinetics, heartburn and flatulence, etc.) or a little water in small sips to dilute the acid and start digestion. True, in the latter case, it is important not to drink a lot so that the stomach does not expand and the symptoms do not worsen.
Purely theoretically, you can still relax the oppressive clothes, walk and lie down. But there is no evidence of the effectiveness of these methods.
What to do to prevent indigestion
To keep the stomach working properly stick to simple recommendations:
- Eat more often, but less.
- Avoid triggers (alcohol, caffeine, fatty and heavy foods, smoking).
- Maintain a healthy weight. Fat puts pressure on the internal organs and prevents them from working. For example, it causes the stomach to throw acidic contents into the esophagus.
- Get regular exercise. This improves motor skills and helps to maintain normal weight.
- Control stress. Worry in itself does not cause indigestion, but exacerbates the symptoms.
