We think this is the best part of the franchise.
On March 23, the premiere of the film "John Wick - 4" took place. The final (probably) picture about the ruthless killer was directed by the director of the previous three films - Chad Stahelski. The script was written by Shay Hatten (John Wick 3) and Michael Finch (November Man). This is the first film in the franchise not to have been produced by Derek Kolstad, the original creator. Starring Keanu Reeves, Bill Skarsgård, Donnie Yen.
The picture is dedicated to the confrontation between John Wick and the Marquis de Gramont, one of the leaders of the Board of Clans. All the best killers are again set against the main character - including his old friend. John tries to destroy the Marquis, dealing with killerswaiting for him at every corner.
Incredible action
The film opens with a scene in which John Wick is hitting a punching bag in the basement. A minute later, he rides a horse through the desert, shooting at his next enemies. At first it seems that in this way the hero closes the questions left after the third part, but this is an illusion: the authors simply wanted a bright shootout in the spirit of westerns. This scene epitomizes the entire movie.
Throughout the film, John Wick fights in a Japanese hotel full of glass figures in a Berlin club, French deserts, the desert, the garden and several other locations that have practically no nothing in common. The plot is subordinate action - The writers lead the hero to a place where it will be cool to fight. And that is great.
As in the first parts, the action scenes were filmed with a minimum of cuts. It turns out long and intense fights, during which John Wick demonstrates his mastery of various martial arts, and also uses all the weapons that come to hand. Even nunchucks.
The fights and gunfights in the first half of the movie are top notch, but can get a little boring due to the quantity. But then something completely incredible begins: the last 50 minutes look like the perfect action movie. Brilliant fights on the roadway, torn off car doors and adrenaline music - and all this with incredible camera work.
John Wick 4 starts with good action scenes and ends with great ones.
Less logic
By the fourth part, the audience understands quite well the world in which John Wick lives. Perhaps the most important knowledge is that “eternal” rules mean nothing. And so they can be constantly invented and added to the plot. If "secularization" hotel "Continental" in the second part looked like a scrapping of the rules, then in the fourth it is an ordinary occupation. The new film again reveals the "old" and "eternal" laws. They rather contradict the first three parts, but come on: John Wick is not visited for logic.
In the new part, not only the set of rules has increased, but also the number of killers. Now the killers appearing anywhere in the world seem to be endless. If in the previous parts their number was explained by the fact that John Wick was ambushed everywhere, now they just live everywhere. Hundreds of French people in Paris are just waiting for some goal to come to them. So that they do not get lost, they are helped by a radio station that reports on the movements of the protagonist. It's unclear how she learns his route at night, but Wick is always on target.
But if Wick moves along Paris everyone sees, then his travels between countries are strictly secret. So much so that they are not even shown to the viewer. The killers can't find Wick either, so he quietly moves in. It seems strange, but, again, the film is not about logic: Keanu Reeves plays a killer, not a chess player.
Working stereotypes
What do people do in Japan? They look at sakura, drink sake and talk about Buddhism - at least this is how the authors of John Wick see this country. But in Germany people go to clubs to dance to techno. The French, of course, are more cultured - they walk against the backdrop of the Eiffel Tower.
From the very first part of "John Wick" hit cranberries, over time it has not gone away. However, it is already too late to fight her: since they decided that the real name of Wick is Jordani Yovanovitch, then we need to continue. It is even strange that the hero does not beat the French with a large croissant, and the Germans with a Bavarian sausage.
Cranberries have also touched new characters, but this does not bother them. Donnie Yen plays John Wick's "old friend" Kane. The magnificent killer has long retired, but he is ordered to have a comrade. Kane has a little peculiarity - he is blind. However, this does not prevent him and cool fight, and shoot enemies. Scenes with him are reminiscent of "Blind Fury" on steroids.
Hiroyuki Sanada plays Shimazu. He is also an old friend of John Wick (yes, “old friends” are introduced very easily in this film), but, unlike Kane, he is ready to help a comrade. Shimazu is real samurai. His subordinates run around with bows, katanas, and shurikens, and nunchucks can be found in his hotel.
Both Kane and Shimazu are terribly stereotyped heroes. Similarly, Asian characters were portrayed in action movies 40 years ago. However, their stereotyping does not cause rejection, but only a small smirk, because they are simply wonderful heroes. Appropriate jokes, adequate backstory, consistent actions - and they cause sympathy.
John Wick 4 is another brilliant action movie that brings together the best of the genre. There is almost no sentimentality in it, but there are a lot of good fights and bright heroes. By the way, you can go on it even if you have seen only one (any) part: this is a good attraction, and not a complicated intricate story.
