5 reasons to watch the Russian TV series Fisher if you missed it
Miscellaneous / / April 02, 2023
The story of a serial killer living in the suburbs turned out to be creepy. And not only because it is based on real events.
Fisher was directed by Sergey Taramaev, the author of Black Spring. Starring Ivan Yankovsky, Alexander Yatsenko and Alexandra Bortich.
Premiered on more.tv. There are three great episodes available right now.
1. The series is based on real events
"Fisher" tells about investigators who are trying to catch a maniac who kills children. We are talking about Sergei Golovkin, nicknamed Fisher. From 1986 to 1992, 11 boys became its victims. Investigators searched for him for too long because they suspected only local residents, and Golovkin had a Moscow residence permit. The maniac is also known for another reason: this is the last person on the territory of the Russian Federation sentenced to death.
Golovkin's story is not the most popular, much more often Russian filmmakers recall other maniacs. At the same time, his case shows what role a misconception about the killer can play, as well as the imperfection of the investigation.
2. The authors have kept important details
True Crime has been at the peak of popularity for several years now. In Russia, the genre is not bypassed, and sometimes because of this it becomes sad. For example, the seriesChikatilo"Starring Dmitry Nagiyev turned the infernal story into vaudeville. There were also successful cases - in the same "Method", some episodes of which are based on real events.
Fisher can definitely be attributed to successful projects. The scriptwriters managed to create a vibrant world outside the crime scene - because of this, not only and not so much the maniac is interesting as everyone else. Instead of inventing a cinematic biography of the killer, the authors focused on the investigators.
It is interesting to observe the style of solving crimes. Psychological portrait, statistics, testimonies of others maniacs (Anatoly Slivko) - no one really understands how the psyche of a serial killer works. Because of this, the heroes (like their real-life counterparts) make the wrong decisions.
3. The series has great actors.
The character of Ivan Yankovsky is the head of the investigation, Yevgeny Bokov. This is a classic detective with a difficult fate and inability to communicate with people. The actor managed to humanize this image. He also managed to play provinciality (Bokov is called from Rostov), which means a lot here. At the beginning of the series, the fricative “g” and the eternal “sho” can be annoying, which Yankovsky does not get very naturally, but you get used to it over time.
Once again, Alexander Yatsenko showed himself brilliantly. In recent years, he has been trying different images - from a provincial drunkard to "black spring"and a stupid investigator in" I Killed My Husband "to the young Ivan the Terrible in a biopic about the king and an episodic (but creepy) character in the film" Captain Volkonogov fled. The role of one of the investigators in "Fischer" is another success.
Against the backdrop of bright and rather aggressive male characters, the heroine of Alexandra Bortich looks a little dull. But given that colleagues do not want to reckon with her (they say, women should not conduct such cases), her invisibility is logical. Bortich copes with this role, adding to the heroine's despair - she knows that they will not listen to her, but she still does her job.
4. The authors describe the source of violence
Good killer stories tell not only about maniacs, but also about the reasons why they appeared. "Fischer" shows a gloomy and rather sick atmosphere, enveloping not only crime scenes, but also people's homes.
The series demonstrates how in an ordinary suburban area, parents do not think about their children exactly until the moment they are found dead. The director of the orphanage perceives her wards as a burden and jokes about their origin, not forgetting to mention the mothers who (in her opinion) refused an abortion in vain. To this already gloomy world is added investigator Bokov, who behaves like a criminal. "Fischer" in many ways resembles "Meir from Easttown", albeit with Soviet specifics.
5. The visuals complete the story
Several techniques are used to immerse the viewer in the past. Excellent, well-known costumes and interiors create a lamp and somewhere nostalgic feeling. Color correction, emphasizing warm tones, only enhances these sensations. Cruelty, which reigns in the series, strongly contrasts with this pleasant picture, which makes it seem even more egregious.
The camera work only highlights each element. Cameraman Ivan Lebedev, who has a rather controversial filmography (the series Univer, the film The Best Day, several parts of the Yolki franchise), performed his task flawlessly.
The shots taken in the forest turned out great. Night scenes surrounded by trees could even get into a good horror.
