Editorial Forbes Health told about the sounds that are most often searched on the Internet. To do this, the authors of the publication conducted a study based on a survey of 2,000 volunteers from the United States and reports on queries from search engines, social networks and app stores. After analyzing the data, the results were commented by Judy Ho, a California neuropsychologist who collaborates with Forbes.

At the same time, “human” sounds (that is, those made by people or things created by them) are much less popular than natural: the sound of clapping hands is searched an average of 206 thousand times a month, while the sound of rain is searched for more than 3 million once.
It is noted that young people are more inclined to search for different sounds on the Web. Among the respondents, 63% of people aged 18-25 noted that they are more likely to search for background sounds on the Internet, while for the age of 58-76 this figure is only 38%. Among people 77 and older, only 34% are willing to search the web for the sounds of crickets and purring kittens.
The most popular reasons for listening to such sounds were respondents to help with sleep (53%), relaxation (42%) and meditation (31%). Interestingly, 29% of those surveyed are looking for sounds that make them feel nostalgic. Judy Ho notes that nostalgia-inducing sounds can help you remember a simpler and more joyful time, remind you of things and hobbies that once brought joy. This is an effective method for dealing with stress.
