Scientists have recreated the appearance of a woman of the ancient Nabataean kingdom

An international team of archaeologists, anthropologists, sculptors and forensic scientists has unveiled the face of a Nabataean woman named Hinat, who lived about 2,000 years ago. This is the first reconstruction of the face of a representative of this mysterious people. CNN.

The remains of Hinat were discovered in the tomb of the ancient city of Hegra (Saudi Arabia) in 2015. Judging by the tombstone inscriptions, she belonged to a noble and wealthy family.

It was possible to recreate the appearance with the help of the preserved remains and computed tomography. After her face was "revived" on a 3D printer. The bust is already on display at the Al-Ula Archaeological Site Reception Center in Saudi Arabia.

The authors of the project admit that some features of appearance, such as eye color and wrinkles, cannot be reconstructed. Therefore, scientists have resorted to the most plausible artistic assumptions.

Nevertheless, some experts doubt that modern technologies already make it possible to recreate even approximate copies of ancient people. For example, an archaeologist from the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology Lawrence Hapiot wrote on his Twitter that "there are still some unscientific interpretations in facial reconstruction."

The Nabataean civilization left no significant historical texts. Information about her mainly comes from tomb inscriptions throughout the Middle East and from rare archaeological finds.
