It analyzes website pages and social media profiles, but does not collect user data, experts assured.
The RKN began using the Oculus automatic search for illegal content in images and videos. It was tested in December 2022, and in January 2023 it began to integrate with other monitoring tools. About it write "Vedomosti".
“The Oculus information system has already been launched and is performing its tasks in full: it detects violations of the law in images and video materials, ”said a representative of the Main Radio Frequency Center (GRC) subordinate to the RKN, which was the customer systems.
Oculus is able to recognize scenes, symbols and texts in images and videos that indicate extremism, LGBT propaganda, drug promotion, calls for mass illegal events or suicidal actions.
It is noted that Oculus is able to analyze website pages, as well as profiles and publics in social networks. At the same time, the system does not collect data, said Natalia Tylevich, general director of the Social Laboratory company.
Previously, RKN employees searched for prohibited content “mostly manually”: one operator processed about 100 images and videos per day. Oculus, on the other hand, analyzes more than 200,000 pieces of content per day.
Until 2025, the RKN plans to expand the classifier, allowing the system to determine new classes and types of violations.
