Disney to release King Kong TV series
Miscellaneous / / August 25, 2022
Looks like more King Kong is on the way as development on a Disney+ series has begun. About it informs Deadline by reference to industry insiders.
The screenwriter will be Stephanie Folsom (creator of the Amazon Newspapers, also producing two episodes of the series "The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power»). She was also appointed as an executive producer along with James Wan (Aquaman, Saw, The Conjuring) and Michael Clear (Mortal Kombat).
The series will tell the background of the popular character and show his homeland. For now, it's simply referred to as "King Kong", but that may not be the final name. Based on the book "King Kong" by Merian K. Cooper (it was he who created this monster and shot the first film about him) and the modern series of novels by Joe DeVito. Cooper's legacy representatives will oversee the project.
5 years ago, the King Kong: Skull Island series was already in development with a different creative team, but the same books and film at the core. It was canceled and in 2021 Netflix announced already animated series under the same name.
