“The latest TV show from Marvel”: what critics write about the series “She-Hulk: Lawyer”
Miscellaneous / / August 20, 2022
The first episodes feel like a great adventure. The acting and the chemistry between them more than outweigh all claims to computer graphics. If the remaining episodes turned out to be just as charming, we can talk about a new successful Marvel project.
She-Hulk wants to be funny, but apart from the tortured jokes about The Silence of the Lambs or Tinder, the first episodes lack the vitality or depth that Ms. Marvel and Moon Knight have shown. And that's not to mention "Wanda/Vision”, which showed a much bolder and more funny MCU sitcom. The second half will have to try to confirm the right of the series to exist.
Everything looks so funny and shows such confidence, style and vivacity that the series is impossible not to love. The plot is developing well, and viewers will get a new interesting story every week.
The origin story of She-Hulk that unfolds in the first episode is pretty beaten up - once again someone gets superpowers that he didn't want - but this is smoothed out by the dynamic between Maslany and Ruffalo, who merrily bicker like real brother and sister. Their interaction goes beyond the visuals they often hide under.
Once Jen accepts her duality, the show accelerates into a lawyer show that regularly breaks the fourth wall.
There is really a lot here, but in the mix you can distinguish an extremely attractive main character and a little good humor. If She-Hulk builds on its strengths, we could have a truly unique and fun take on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But in the first four episodes, it cannot be said that the creators managed to achieve this.
It's Marvel's freshest and most bubbling TV show, but even that feels too heavy. And it's not about the plot or the topics covered, but about the clumsy execution. The series is trying to do something to expand the universe, which in 14 years has been stretched to the limit. And while it's nice to see Maslany and Ruffalo talking, it's a pity they always talk about Marvel.
The first episodes of She-Hulk Lawyer are fast-paced, funny, and full of references. But anyone looking for more here - more deep themes, more drama, more twisted plot - will be disappointed.
